How to Factory Reset an iPhone 11

Modified on Fri, Feb 21 at 5:58 PM

A factory reset will erase everything on your iPhone 11 and return it to how it was when you first got it. This can be useful if you're selling or giving away your phone or if it's having serious issues and you need a fresh start.

Important: Before resetting, back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer if you want to keep your data.

Step 1: Back Up Your iPhone (Optional but Recommended)

Before you erase your iPhone, ensure your photos, contacts, and other important data are backed up.

To back up using iCloud:

  1. Connect to Wi-Fi.
  2. Open the Settings app.
  3. Tap your name at the top.
  4. Select iCloud > iCloud Backup.
  5. Tap Back Up Now and wait for the backup to complete.

To back up using a computer:

  1. Connect your iPhone to a computer with a charging cable.
  2. Open Finder (on Mac) or iTunes (on Windows).
  3. Select your iPhone when it appears.
  4. Click Back Up Now and wait for the process to finish.

Step 2: Sign Out of iCloud (If Giving Away or Selling)

To remove your Apple ID from the device:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap your name at the top.
  3. Scroll down and tap Sign Out.
  4. Enter your Apple ID password when prompted.
  5. Tap Turn Off.

Step 3: Factory Reset Your iPhone 11

Once your data is backed up, follow these steps to erase your iPhone.

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Scroll down and tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  4. Select Erase All Content and Settings.
  5. If prompted, enter your passcode.
  6. Tap Erase iPhone to confirm.

Your iPhone will restart and show the Apple logo while it resets. This process may take a few minutes.

Step 4: Set Up as New or Restore from Backup

After the reset, your iPhone will turn on like it's brand new. You can:

  • Set it up as a new iPhone by following the on-screen instructions.
  • Restore from a backup if you saved your data earlier.

What to Do Next

  • If you're selling or giving away the iPhone, it's now ready for the new owner.
  • If you reset it to fix a problem, try setting it up again and see if the issue is resolved.

That's it! Your iPhone 11 is now factory reset. ?
